  5. Hi,

I was wondering whether the AmpuTeddy teddy bears are still available? – I was hoping to get one for my nephew who is due to have his leg amputated next week (aged 1).

    • Unfortunately they are not available now. We are working to get them back again, but there is no date for them to be back yet. I’ll keep your nephew in my prayers for his surgery and recovery!
If you email me at katepolicani @ gmail. com, I can send you a coupon for a discount for the print books. The ebooks are always free.

I have always wanted to be an author. In 4th grade I won Author of the Year and had my book “The Princess and the Unicorn” was placed on the coveted shelves of the library. I remember wearing a grey corduroy blazer and my hair was done in Princess Leah buns, because of course, I wrote about princess’s.
Then comes 10th grade and Mrs Kinder, the sweet little old English teacher, told me I didn’t have the grammar skills nor the imagination to be an author……..all my dreams came crumbling down around me like a scene from Inception…heart broken and mortified I put all my stories away.
Every once and a while an idea for a great story would pop into my head. I would jot down the ideas, but would never let them grow. Like Round-up on the weeds that grow in the cracks of a sidewalk, Mrs. Kinder’s words would kill my spark of creativity.
Today I was cleaning out a computer desk that I had intended to be a space where I could be creative. First I found my ID card from 10th grade, then I found a notebook of short story ideas. A few hours later Im on FB and now Im on this page….I think St. Paul, the patron saint of authors, was smiling upon me today.
So why am I telling you all of this? Because Mrs Kinder was full of crap and I want to write. Seeing your books come to life, even as mere pictures on a website, has inspired me to follow my dreams. I have all of these bits and pieces of paper, napkins, and magazine pages with ideas on them and I don’t know how to start weaving them into stories. Where do you suggest I start?

    • Those pieces are like gold! Keep them safe. Pick the ones that move you the most and add to them. For me, one stuck out and before I knew it I had a book. Find some book-loving friends to bounce your ideas off too.
I wrote my whole experience after I finished the first book on this blog. I compiled the posts in free ebooks here: https://katepolicani.com/books-for-sale/cwf/ I hope they help you!

  9. Have you ever thoughht about publishing an ebook or guest authoring on other sites?

Thank you, Kate, for writing “Compulsively Writing Fiction”. Your honesty and candour were refreshing. It is a wealth of information for this new author and I really, really appreciate the price. I hope you get rich at writing; I want to follow in your footsteps.

  11. Hi Kate, thank you for the great post to my blog!

Thank you so much for the Amputeddy books! My 5yr nephew just lost his leg due to an accident. I just ordered the books and can’t wait to read them to him! Do you still make the Amputeddy stuffed animal?

    • Unfortunately, we don’t. The rights to the bears belong to UW Medical Center’s Limb Loss group and they have not made any moves to continue making them. If something does turn up, I will definitely post about it here.
